What Lifts Might Your Elderly Loved One Need?
There are many elderly people who need help with moving around. They may be bedridden for a range of reasons. Some elderly people can’t use their legs. Others need help going from sitting to standing. If your elderly loved one needs help with transferring themselves out of their bed or chair, there are different lifts that could help with this process. The one that is needed will be dependent on what needs your elderly loved one has.
Sit to Stand Lift
One of the common lifts for the elderly is called a sit to stand lift. This is a lift that will help your elderly loved one go from sitting down to an almost standing position. After this is done, the device can be wheeled to the chair where your elderly loved one wants to sit. It can also be wheeled to their wheelchair, as well. At that point, you or one of the caregivers can lower your elderly loved one back to seated position.
Floor Lift
There is also a floor lift that you could get for your elderly loved one, if needed. This type of lift has a sling that is put around your elderly loved one. This it is attached onto an arm on the floor lift. This arm will lift your elderly loved one up. You can move the device around to the position your elderly loved one needs to be in before you put them down again. If your elderly loved one needs to be repositioned in bed to prevent bed sores, this might be the option that you need.
Ceiling Lift
You could get a ceiling lift for your elderly loved one, if their needs require it, as well. This type of lift has a sling, as well as a ceiling track. It is used to lift your elderly loved one up, move them to where they need to be within the path of the track, and lower them down again. The main benefit of using this type of lift is that you don’t have to store the device on the floor. The pieces will all be attached to their ceiling. However, you won’t have as much flexibility for moving your elderly loved one around with a ceiling lift. The positions must follow the track.
You or their caregivers may have been struggling trying to move your elderly loved one. However, it can be tough to keep transferring someone, especially if you are trying to do it on your own. If your elderly loved one needs help with transferring, these are the types of lifts that could help with this. If you aren’t sure which lift would be best for your loved one, you can speak to their doctor to see if one would be better than the other.
